Paws For Purpose
Paws for purpose - a project where Ellie designed and painted a sculptural dog to be auctioned off for the charity - NZ Blind foundation
Wellington City Mission
This mural was designed to tell the story of the Wellington City Mission over the last 120 years.
Symbolism: The concept embraces the idea of the Wellington City Mission being a sanctuary. Full of growth, connection and encouraging people to thrive together. Organic beautiful growth will hang down, holding every part of the history of Wellington City Mission, intertwining with community, its context, the land and the buildings. Symbolising how interconnected it all is and how it becomes a full picture of how the city mission is a sanctuary for a lot of people - a safe place where we are stronger together. Part of the history of the land and vegetation around the Whakamaru site was many gardens and paths created by Māori which was surrounded by trees, ferns, and tutu. The mural will capture many garden stops along the journey from St Peters Church to the Whakamaru building on the right.
Elmer - Charity Art Auciton
Elmer the Elephant was designed for Wild in Art - A world wide charity event that gets artists involved in adding their style and designs to various animal sculpture which go on to be auctioned for charity. Ellie Compton’s Elmer was auctioned off for the Laura Ferguson Brain Injury Trust in 2023.
Wellington City Mission
This mural was designed for the cafe space in the new Whakamaru building for the Wellington City Mission. The symbolism: Two feathers intertwine referencing the meaning behind the feather: Harmony, Unity and often a symbol of faith, hope and compassion. Weaving in and out of the feathers will be spaces drawn (in my style) that reference activities within Whakamaru as a place, people and their interactions, and celebrating the vibrant, strong and influential atmosphere within the building and the community that surrounds it. The feathers will also be a symbol of what Whakamaru will be for people: A safe, calm space where people feel a sense of belonging and home. "No us & Them" - There is an option to have thesewords slightly larger somewhere in the piece, but Iam thinking at the moment of just having it smallersomewhere and letting the mural speak for itself.
