Press Lane - Christchurch CBD - Exterior Mural

$0.00

‘Press Lane After Dark’ reimagines Press Lane as an entertainment city set amongst native flora and fauna - a vibrant world for the viewer to get lost in - inspired by the energy of the performing arts precinct, the history of Press Lane & Ōtautahi, Christchurch as the Garden City.

3D “Press Lane” lettering double’s as both ‘way-finding’ signage, but also an integrated feature where the letters become alive with activity. The mural helps transform the laneway into a theatrical gateway where creativity, performance, and connection unfold. Layered architectural forms tell of the building’s that used to be in the area and architectural cut-aways reveal hidden moments throughout the city - jazz bars, theatre performances, rooftop celebrations, late-night dining, dance, and music woven through the streets and buildings.

A red carpet travels across both walls, guiding viewers through the stories, history, and activity of the laneway. Subtle references to Press Lane’s past are embedded throughout, honouring its connection to storytelling, nightlife, entertainment, nearby newspaper offices and entertainment hubs.

As a result the mural becomes immersive, warm, and alive - part theatre set, part dreamscape, and part city - transforming the laneway into a place of celebration, wonder, storytelling and human connection.
